A Recipe Written by Hand
Dear Friend,
I have noticed something curious.
There is something different about a recipe written by hand.
The words may be the same as the ones printed in a cookbook, but somehow they feel different.
Perhaps it is the handwriting.
A letter leaning a little to the left.
A word squeezed into the corner because there wasn't quite enough room.
A smudge where someone's hand rested on the paper.
Little imperfections that somehow make the recipe feel more alive.
Recently, I found an old recipe tucked away among my things.
I stopped for a moment and looked at the handwriting.
Someone had taken the time to write those words down.
I wondered how many times the recipe had been made.
I wondered who had sat around the table.
I wondered if someone had tasted the first spoonful and added a little more salt.
Perhaps someone had laughed in the kitchen.
Perhaps someone had made the recipe so many times that they no longer needed to read the instructions.
The recipe didn't tell me any of those things.
It simply sat quietly on the page.
And yet, somehow, it made me curious about all the stories that might have happened around it.
That made me think about the things we write down.
A recipe.
A shopping list.
A note left on the kitchen counter.
A birthday card.
A name written inside a favorite book.
We may think we are simply writing words.
But sometimes, without realizing it, we are leaving little pieces of ourselves behind.
Years later, someone may find those words and recognize us in the handwriting.
I rather like that.
There is something comforting about knowing that ordinary things can become treasures simply because someone cared enough to write them down.
Perhaps that is why I have always liked handwritten recipes.
They aren't just instructions for making something.
Sometimes they are little invitations to remember.
And now I find myself wondering...
How many handwritten treasures are tucked away in drawers and recipe boxes around the world?
How many are waiting patiently to be discovered?
I hope there are quite a few.
Until we meet again...
May your tea be warm,
May your books be well loved,
May your mailbox hold unexpected kindness,
and may you find a little treasure waiting in an ordinary place.
With warm wishes,
Paisley Dragon ♥
