The Card to an Old Friend

Dear Friend,

Today I spent some time choosing a card for an old friend.

Finding the card was easy.

Finding the right words took a little longer.

I wanted my note to feel like something worth opening.

The sort of letter that brings a smile before the envelope is even fully unfolded.

As I sat with my tea and searched for the right words, I found myself thinking about all the words that have traveled alongside me over the years.

Some arrived in conversations.

Some arrived in letters.

Some were spoken only once and somehow stayed anyway.

It is curious how that happens.

Most words pass by like clouds.

Yet every now and then, a few leave footprints behind.

A kind remark.

A bit of encouragement.

A story shared at just the right moment.

Years later, we may not remember the day, the weather, or even where we were standing, but somehow those words remain.

I suppose that is one of the quiet forms of magic in this world.

We never truly know which words will stay with another person.

A simple sentence offered with kindness may travel much farther than we ever intended.

Perhaps that is why I took so much time writing this card.

Not because the words needed to be perfect.

But because words are small things that sometimes leave lasting footprints.

As for the card itself, I eventually found the right message.

Or at least I hope I did.

The envelope has already begun its journey.

And now I find myself smiling at the thought of it arriving in a familiar mailbox.

Until next time, may the kind words you receive stay close, and may the kind words you share travel farther than you know.

With warm wishes,

Paisley Dragon
