A Feather at My Door

Dear Friend,

I have noticed something curious.

Sometimes wonder arrives without knocking.

This morning, I stepped outside and found a single feather resting near my doorstep.

There were no birds in sight.

No nest nearby.

Just one lone feather, waiting as though it had chosen that very spot to rest.

I picked it up and turned it gently in the morning light.

It was soft.

Remarkably light.

I couldn't help but wonder where it had been.

Had it drifted through the tops of the trees?

Had it danced with the wind before finding its way here?

How many sunrises had it seen before arriving at my door?

A feather has such an interesting journey.

It belongs to the sky for a while.

Then, almost without anyone noticing, it becomes part of the earth again.

I rather like that.

There is something comforting about knowing that not every journey has to be hurried.

Some things simply trust the breeze.

As I stood there, I realized the feather had already given me a gift.

Not because it was rare.

Not because it was beautiful, although I thought it was.

But because it made me stop.

It invited me to wonder about a story I would never fully know.

I think the world offers little invitations like that every day.

A feather.

A smooth stone.

A leaf shaped differently from all the others.

They ask for nothing more than a moment of our attention.

And in return, they remind us how much beauty quietly passes by when we are in a hurry.

The feather rests on my desk now, tucked beside a favorite book.

Perhaps it will stay there for a while.

Or perhaps one day the breeze will borrow it again.

Either way, I am grateful our paths crossed, if only for a little while.

Until we meet again...

May your tea be warm,

May your books be well loved,

May your mailbox hold unexpected kindness,

And may one curious little dragon remind you to notice the quiet wonders everyone else walks past.

With warm wishes,

Paisley Dragon
